New Delhi: A segment of DU Conversations, where
Ramjas College students were to focus on their “non-political narrative”, has been cancelled by
Delhi School of Economics
(
DSE
) citing security concerns.
A 20-minute slot was allotted to them in ‘Celebrating 70 years of Indian Democracy’, an event that was to be held on Thursday by the sociology department as part of DU Conversations.
In ‘What Truly Happened’, Ramjas students were to speak about the February
violence
in the
college
and give voice to the students who did not come out on the street. “The whole incident became an AISA Vs ABVP event and all student narratives were lost,” said Bipasha Nath, a former Ramjas student who was part of the team preparing for the event.
Nath said they had planned a band performance by the college music society and a few students were to talk about their experience on that day when some of them were also injured. “But by the time we were finalising the names, we were informed that the event had been cancelled.”
According to the students, a notice was issued on Tuesday postponing the whole event. DSE director Pammi Dua, they claimed, initially didn’t permit the programme in the open but said it could be held in a classroom. But now she has cancelled the Ramjas segment, they alleged. Dua refused to comment.
