Drunken brawl over ₹1,500 ends in murder

New Delhi: A fight between two drunk men over Rs 1,500 allegedly led to the murder of a 35-year-old man in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar on early Tuesday morning. A person has been arrested.
DCP (southwest) Rohit Meena said that after receiving a call around 6am from Kusumpur Pahadi, a police team went to the spot and found the body of a man in a pool of blood with his throat slit. The victim was later identified as Ashwani Kumar, a resident of the area.
The man’s throat was slit using a sharp object and crime and forensic teams found broken glass pieces, suggesting that the men might have consumed liquor before the murder, said Meena.
After a case was registered, the CCTV camera footage from around the area were examined, a few suspects were rounded up and the cops zeroed in on one Sanjay, the DCP added. He told police that they were having alcohol when the dispute started. In a fit of rage, he smashed the liquor bottle and used a piece of it to slit Kumar’s throat, police said, adding that the accused then hid the victim’s mobile phone and fled.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man was stabbed to death by an unidentified person in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh perhaps over personal enmity. A passerby informed the Punjabi Bagh police station about the stabbing near Rohtak Road on the intervening night of Monday.
“The man was found bleeding profusely and was taken to a hospital for treatment,” said DCP (west) Vichitra Veer. He succumbed to his injuries during the treatment. The victim was identified as Monu, a resident of Mangolpuri who worked in a shoe factory.
Initially, a case of attempt to murder was registered, to which the section of murder was added following Monu’s death. TNN
