The breezy weather was a huge relief from the scorching heat. And the unexpected rain seemed like a bonus.
NEW DELHI: The weather gods have certainly been generous to Delhi this week. The city woke up to pleasant cloudy weather for the third consecutive day. And thanks to a light drizzle, temperature went further down on Wednesday. The Met department reported that the maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 33.4 degrees Celsius (three degrees below normal) and the minimum temperature was 19.5 degrees Celsius (one degree below normal).
"Thursday's likely to see a partly cloudy sky with thunderstorms accompanied by squall. The city may also experience light rain. But the temperature might rise again on Friday," said a Met official. In fact, the department has warned of heat wave that could begin next week. Meanwhile, for Delhiites, the breezy weather was a huge relief from the scorching heat. And the unexpected rain in the afternoon seemed like a bonus. "I was going for my tuition class at 3 pm when I felt a slight chill in the air.
I couldn't believe it when the first drops of rain fell," said Rashi Dutta, a class IX student. Manoj Aggarwal, a resident of Indirapuram, felt the weather was perfect to take his family out. "I left office early and took my family to Indraprastha Park. The plan just materialised out of the blue when I saw the lovely weather," he said. For Aggarwal's twin daughters, 11-year-old Ritu and Meeta, the weather was a good excuse to stay away from their school books. Tarun Nihanli, a resident of Noida, said: "I hope the weather stays the same for a few more days. It was actually a bit chilly in the evening. We had to switch off the fans." According to the Met department, the afternoon drizzle can be attributed to the Western Disturbances (WD).
