Drinks bill leads to brawl at S Delhi restaurant

NEW DELHI: There was high-drama at a well-known restaurant in Green Park, south Delhi, following an argument between the members of a music band that was playing at the bar and the bar officials over payment of drinks.
The members of the band had also allegedly attacked a policeman also when he tried to intervene. Police said that three FIRs have been registered against the band members and the bar officials and a probe has been initiated.
At around 1.20am, when the band was playing a tribute to Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington at the Turquoise Cottage on Aurobindo Marg, one of the performers, Sahil Sharma, noticed that their band manager Mayank was involved in an argument with bartender Harpal Singh over the bill.There was a heated exchange which led to a scuffle. The other band members tried to pacify both, but soon they too were drawn into the argument, Sharma said in a Facebook post.
However, Sharma alleged that soon some security guards entered the restaurant and started dragging them out. The band members were allegedly thrashed and beaten while being dragged down the stairs and pushed out. He alleged that he was kicked and punched by the security men. At this time someone informed the PCR about the incident.
According to the second FIR, Sharma and his brother Gaurav were found arguing with some people outside the restaurant. When officers tried to intervene, Sharma and Gaurav allegedly attacked a policeman.
“Throughout the incident, Harpal Singh did not stop hitting us,” Sharma said in his complaint, adding that the constable also misbehaved with him and his brother and also intimidated them.
“Three FIRs were registered for causing hurt and preventing a public servant from discharging his duties, based on the complaints. We will take appropriate action accordingly,” said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP, south.
Police said that all them were taken to a hospital after the incident and given first aid. Meanwhile, TOI tried to contact Turquoise Cottage regarding the incident on the contact number provided on their website, but failed to get a response from the management.
