Dr Shaheen Shahid unmasked: How Lucknow-born doctor turned JeM recruiter; linked to Delhi car blast and Faridabad module
NEW DELHI: Dr Shaheen Shahid, a woman doctor from Lucknow, was among eight people arrested after the busting of an inter-state terror module, officials said. She has also been named in Monday’s Delhi car blast case.
Sayeed, originally from Lucknow, had married a man from Maharashtra, Zafar Hayat, but the couple divorced in 2015.
According to preliminary investigations, Shahid is associated with the newly formed Jamaat-ul-Mominaat, an organisation launched by the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed last month.
She is alleged to be part of Jaish-e-Mohammed’s women recruitment wing in India and is believed to have been in contact with a handler in Pakistan, potentially tasked with recruiting more women for terror activities.
Her arrest comes as part of a larger operation spanning Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, which led to the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad. Among the eight arrested, three are doctors.
In Lucknow, Sayeed’s father expressed shock at his daughter’s involvement, stating he only learned about her arrest through the media and pleaded his ignorance regarding her alleged terror activities.
Her father, Syed Ahmad Ansari, stated that he was "shocked to hear of her alleged involvement."
"I have three children. My eldest son is Mohammad Shoaib, who lives here with me. My daughter is Shaheen Shahid and my youngest son is Parvez Ansari.
"I last spoke to Shaheen about a month ago. I have never heard her mention Dr. Muzammil or anyone connected to such activities," Ansari said.
She had completed her medical studies from Allahabad (now Prayagraj), the father added.
