NEW DELHI: Commuters on the DND Flyway faced severe traffic congestion on Tuesday, with long delays on the loop connecting to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

The bottleneck, a daily ordeal for those traveling between Delhi and Noida, worsens during peak hours as traffic from the eight-lane DND Flyway funnels into just two lanes on the loop. This stretch also merges with vehicles from Chilla border, compounding the gridlock.

While talking to TOI in September 2024, Brajesh Sharma, a Sector 78 resident, called the situation a “nightmare,” particularly in the evenings. “It takes me half an hour just to cross this stretch,” he said. Another commuter, Anu Shree, pointed out the lack of traffic personnel at the spot, making the ordeal even more frustrating.

DCP (Traffic) Yamuna Prasad acknowledged the surge in vehicular movement, stating that while the DND Flyway was originally designed for 70,000 vehicles, it now sees 2.7 lakh vehicles daily. “Combined with traffic from Chilla border and Kalindi Kunj, congestion has significantly worsened,” he said.

Authorities are considering widening the loop as a short-term measure, while the much-delayed Chilla elevated road remains the key long-term solution.

The 5.5km six-lane project, meant to connect Mayur Vihar to Mahamaya Flyover, has been stalled due to funding issues. The Noida Authority awaits state government approval to bridge a Rs 151 crore budget gap before construction can begin.
