NEW DELHI: Dense fog enveloped the national capital and NCR region on Friday morning amid severe cold conditions.

The thick fog disrupted rail services at New Delhi railway station, causing substantial delays to numerous train schedules. The persistent cold wave in the national capital has further diminished visibility.

The Air Quality Index categories are defined as: 0-50 'good', 51-100 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', 301-400 'very poor', and 401-500 'severe'.

As temperatures continue to fall, the city's homeless population has increasingly sought refuge in night shelters.

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has established 235 pagoda tents to accommodate homeless individuals. These night shelters are located across various parts of the capital, including AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and near the Nizamuddin flyover.

Delhi residents were observed huddling around bonfires or seeking warmth in night shelters as the temperature continued its downward trend.

Severe winter conditions persisted across North Indian states on Friday. Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, recorded 8 degrees Celsius at 3:30 am. Local authorities have established temporary shelters for homeless individuals. In UP's Aligarh, people were observed seeking protection in one such shelter.
