Delhi's Khajuri Khas residents battle flooding, foul odours amid official apathy

TOI does a three-month follow-up. The results raise a stink

Staff at Khajuri Khas police station and the nearby BSES office endure poor sanitary conditions daily.

When TOI visited the area three months back, nauseating odours and accumulated sewage water stood in stark contrast to DDA's welcoming sign that read "thanks for coming..." Since then, the city has got a new govt, but for residents here, things have not changed.

The blocked drainage system causes persistent flooding in the area. Anis Mohammed, a resident, says: "We are accustomed to this; no MLA, MP or councillor addresses this issue."

The stagnant, contaminated water poses serious problems for those travelling through the area.

Another resident, Bhavesh, describes a recent incident: "After a spell of unexpected rain, conditions deteriorated further. My neighbour and his son toppled from a rickshaw while returning from school."

While elections come and go, basic infrastructure needs, it seems, remain unaddressed.
