Wire pierces man’s chest on Delhi's Signature Bridge
NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man died after a metal wire from Signature Bridge broke off and pierced his chest when he was returning home on his bike early Thursday.
The body of the man, Pranav Mishra, was found lying near the divider. He was later identified from the insurance papers of his bike. The police initially suspected it to be a hit-and-run case.
After a probe, it was found that the metal wire had pierced him while he was going towards Wazirabad. Family members told the police that he had called his mother and asked her to serve food, and said he will reach in 20 minutes. However, when he did not turn up, they started looking for him.
A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered. Police said the wire could have loosened because of construction work happening on one of the pillars of the bridge coupled with strong winds.
Contractors and labourers working at the pillar are being questioned.
