NEW DELHI: After the Rajendra Nagar bypoll results were announced on Sunday, Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said the party respected the mandate of the people and its workers would fight future elections with similar force.

“Winning and losing are part of the democratic system. We accept the mandate of the people. Our party workers will work even harder in future,” Gupta said.

“The way Rajendra Nagar’s people and BJP have worked for this byelection, their efforts won’t go waste. Even in opposition, we will keep raising people's issues. People are supreme and we will always be eager to serve them and resolve their problems,” Gupta added.

Meanwhile, responding to an allegation by AAP MLA Atishi that many senior BJP functionaries “helped” AAP in this election, BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said she had humiliated her own party workers.

“Every political party fights elections on the strength of its workers. She might have tried to create confusion in BJP, but at the end of the day, she has actually humiliated the hard work put in by AAP workers and functionaries,” Kapoor said.
