Violence in Delhi: HC seeks Centre, Delhi govt's reply on plea seeking probe under UAPA

The Delhi high court on Friday sought reply of the Centre and Delhi government on a plea seeking probe under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act to find out those behind the violence in northeast Delhi. A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to the Delhi government and ministry of home affairs on the plea. The court posted the matter for hearing on April 30.

Shiv Sena questions absence of Amit Shah during Delhi violence

The Shiv Sena on Friday questioned the absence of Union home minister Amit Shah from Delhi while violence, which claimed 38 lives, engulfed parts of the national capital. "When Delhi was burning and when people were showcasing their anger, where was Union home minister Amit Shah then? What was he doing? These questions are being raised. 38 people have lost their lives and severe damage to public property has also occurred," the party's mouthpiece Saamana said.

No exam in affected areas till Saturday

The Central Board of Secondary Education exams for classes X and XII for Friday and Saturday have been cancelled in northeast and the affected parts of east Delhi. The new dates will be notified soon. From March 2, the exams will be held in all centres. CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi also clarified the examinees staying in northeast Delhi would be given another chance if they couldn’t reach centres outside the troubled zone.
