Delhi to get two elevated BRT corridors

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Monday announced construction of two new elevated Bus-Rapid-Transit (BRT) corridors in the city.
"We propose two elevated BRT corridors, one from Anand Vihar Terminal to Peeragrahi (East-West corridor -- 29 kms) and another from Wazirabad to IGI Airport (North-South corridor -- 24 kms)," Finance Minister Manish Sisodia said while presenting the annual budget.
After the successful implementation of the 'East-West' and 'North-South' elevated BRT corridors, the model will be replicated across the national capital, he said.
"(The work on) four other stretches of elevated corridors, one underground tunnel from NH-24 bypass to Lodhi Road and corridor improvement of road from Khajuri Khas to Bhupura Border will be undertaken in 2016-17.
"(The process of) appointment of consultant for conducting feasibility study and preparation of detailed project report for corridor improvement plan has been initiated and a proposal has been sent to UTIPEC for approval," Sisodia said.
The Deputy CM, who also holds Finance portfolio, said that to promote public transport, cycling and making streets "friendly" for pedestrian and physically challenged people, redesigning of 11 roads will be done in 2016-17.
