NEW DELHI:A thick layer of smog has engulfed Delhi as air quality remained in the 'very poor' category across several areas on Monday, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 349 at 9am. However, 2 out of 39 monitoring stations in the city—Bawana and Jahangirpuri—reported 'severe' air quality with AQIs of 401 and 412, respectively.

The AQI at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JLN) recorded 316, while Akshardham recorded an AQI of 378, both classified as 'very poor' by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius at 9am, which is three degrees above the seasonal average. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius. Humidity was recorded at 96 percent at 8.30am.

At least eight monitoring stations, including Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Alipur, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Wazirpur, Rohini, and RK Puram, reported 'very poor' air quality on Sunday evening.

According to AQI classifications, an AQI of 0-50 is 'good,' 51-100 'satisfactory,' 101-200 'moderate,' 201-300 'poor,' 301-400 'very poor,' and 401-500 'severe.'
