Delhi Police verifies 12,860 tenants so far this year
New Delhi: Delhi Police has conducted tenant verification of 12,860 people so far this year and registered nearly 900 cases against individuals for violating or avoiding the mandatory verification process.
According to police data, a total of 27,497 tenant verification forms were filled in 2025, averaging around 2,291 forms per month. During the same year, 5,378 cases were registered against people found flouting tenant verification norms.
In 2026, up to March 31, a total of 12,860 tenant verification forms were filled, with 896 cases registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to disobedience of orders duly promulgated by a public servant.
“ On a monthly average basis, this translates to approximately 4,287 forms being filled in 2026 so far,” the data shows.
Police said tenant verification can be completed through both online and offline modes. For the online process, applicants are required to visit the Delhi Police website, access the citizen services section and select tenant registration. After creating an account, users must fill in the required details and submit the form.
For offline verification, landlords can collect the form from their local police station or download it from the Delhi Police website. The completed form, along with copies of identity documents, must be submitted at the police station.
Police said several of those booked claimed they were either unaware of the legal requirement or deliberately avoided the process, describing it as time-consuming.
Special Commissioner of Police (Crime and Perception Management and Media Cell) Devesh Chandra Srivastva said tenant verification is a mandatory legal requirement and a crucial component of preventive policing. “It helps the police maintain updated records of people residing in different parts of the city, particularly those living on rent or in temporary accommodation,” he said.
