Delhi Police issue traffic advisory for Christmas; check details

NEW DELHI: Delhi Traffic Police announced preparations for Christmas celebrations, focusing on crowd management and traffic flow.

Police will be present at churches, malls, and markets. Increased patrols and traffic management are planned.

"Apart from this, a drive against drunken driving will be carried out till New Year," an officer confirmed.

Police anticipate large gatherings at several churches, including Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Thomas Church (Mandir Marg), St. Martin's Church (Delhi Cantonment), St. Thomas Church (R K Puram), and St. Mary's Knanaya Church (Vasant Kunj). Traffic diversions will be implemented as needed.

Select City Mall in Saket is also expected to draw large crowds. Traffic diversion will begin at 2 pm Wednesday.

Median cuts on the Sheikh Sarai to Hauz Rani stretch will be closed. Heavy vehicles and buses will be prohibited on Press Enclave Road.

Specific rerouting instructions were issued: Commuters traveling from Chirag Delhi to Qutub Minar via Press Enclave Road should use Khanpur Red Light T-Point via MB Road to Mehrauli. Those traveling from IIT Flyover to PTS towards Press Enclave Road should continue on Aurobindo Marg towards Mehrauli and use TB Hospital Road Red Light to Lado Sarai via MB Road.

Public transport buses will not be allowed from MB Road/Asian Market Red Light to Pushp Vihar. Police noted lower attendance at Sacred Heart Cathedral last year but have deployed sufficient personnel.

"We saw less number of people thronging to the Sacred Heart Cathedral near the Gol Dak Khana last year. However, we have deployed sufficient personnel in the area. They will keep clear the traffic for a smooth movement in the area," another officer said.
