NEW DELHI: Ahead of New Year celebrations, Delhi Police has implemented comprehensive traffic arrangements and heightened security measures in the national capital. Police have positioned specialised vehicles fitted with CCTV cameras and additional equipment for monitoring and patrolling duties.

Police have devised a detailed security plan involving the deployment of 10-11 CAPF companies, establishment of 47 pickets, and allocation of 40 motorcycle patrol teams alongside an equal number of foot patrol teams.

The police force has readied around 15 dedicated special vehicles for patrolling purposes. In collaboration with traffic police, checkpoints will be established to monitor and prevent drunk driving incidents.


Underground metro stations might face closure based on crowd density assessments. Whilst station entry will remain permitted, passengers will not be allowed to exit during specified periods.

Delhi Traffic Police has implemented special traffic arrangements for New Year's Eve celebrations around Connaught Place and India Gate areas. These measures are designed to handle the anticipated large crowds. Starting from 8pmon December 31st 2024, specific traffic restrictions and diversions will affect both private and public transport vehicles.

The prominent landmarks of New Delhi district, including Connaught Place and India Gate, typically experience massive gatherings during New Year celebrations. To handle the situation effectively, the traffic authorities will implement control measures at Connaught Place starting 8pm. The police will set up approximately 12 diversion points on routes heading towards Connaught Place. Entry will be restricted to individuals possessing valid parking permits only.


"Connaught Place, India Gate are the main points in New Delhi district, which always witness huge crowds on New Year. To manage this, the traffic police will impose restrictions in Connaught Place after 8 pm, wherein we enforce diversions at around 12 points on roads leading to Connaught Place. We will allow only those who have a valid parking label. Apart from this, we will divert the rest of the vehicles. Around 400 of our traffic police personnel will be deployed. Apart from this, there will be around 48 bike patrolling teams in the area. Along with this, our team will be deployed with alcohol meters to check and prosecute drunk drivers," said Dhal Singh, DCP Traffic, New Delhi.
