NEW DELHI: Twenty-four Bangladeshis were apprehended by Delhi Police from South East and South Delhi during an operation on Wednesday.

The police confirmed that these individuals had unlawfully entered India, and various documents were seized during the operation.

The arrests included 13 Bangladeshis from the South District and 11 from the South East District for illegal residence. The police are also examining the documentation of more than 10 additional individuals in these areas.


On Tuesday, Delhi Police detained five Bangladeshi nationals from different locations across the city for unauthorized stay. Officials reported that two were caught in Sadar Bazar, while three were found in the Outer District.

Delhi Police stated that all these Bangladeshis were residing unlawfully in India and had obtained various documents. The operation remains ongoing.

Previously, on March 8, Delhi Police conducted a verification drive against illegal immigrants at Jai Hind Camp in the Vasant Kunj area.

Sub-Inspector Ravi Malik told ANI that during verification, individuals are asked to provide identity proof, and all details are thoroughly checked. In suspicious cases, ID proofs are sent to the respective districts for authentication.

In January, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena instructed the police to launch a special mission to identify Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the capital.

A meeting with senior Delhi Police officials led to decisions to strengthen measures for identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as part of an initiative against unlawful residents.

The LG also directed Delhi Police to launch a media outreach program through print and social platforms to raise public awareness about verifying employees, domestic help, and workers, including construction laborers, for security purposes.
