Delhi Police busts fake car sale scam, one arrested

New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted a fake online car-selling scam and arrested a former car seller in connection with the case. The scam came to light after a resident of East Delhi’s Trilokpuri was allegedly cheated of Rs 2 lakh.

Police had received a complaint from the man on April 16, claiming that he had been duped on the pretext of a second-hand car deal. According to the complainant, he had been approached by an unknown person through an online platform. Once the money had been transferred as a booking and processing charge, he did not receive the vehicle, and all contact was cut.

“Analysis of bank transactions revealed that the cheated amount was transferred into a bank account, leading to the identification of the suspect as Aman Sethi”, said DCP (East) Rajeev Kumar.

Sethi, a 32-year-old resident of Shiv Puri Extension, was traced and nabbed. He was also found to be involved in a previous cheating case at the Krishna Nagar police station.



Police said that the accused would pose as an employee of reputed car-selling platforms and then demand money in his personal bank account. Two debit cards, two mobile phones and two SIM cards have been seized.

A case has been registered under sections 308 (extortion), 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation) and 340 (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine) of BNS.
