Death row inmate who murdered father in human sacrifice held in Delhi after 8 months on the run

NEW DELHI: A 43-year-old man, convicted of murdering his father in a 2008 human sacrifice case and sentenced to death, was arrested by Delhi Police after absconding for nearly eight months.

Jitender Singh, who failed to return to jail after being released on furlough in July 2024, was apprehended from the Chelmsford Road area near New Delhi railway station on April 11.

Singh was convicted in a murder case reported from Nabi Karim on March 13, 2008. "He killed his father, Kartar Singh, by mutilating and beheading him as part of what he claimed was a human sacrifice ritual. Police later found the severed head somewhere nearby and the torso in a pool of blood at their home," DCP (central) M Harsha Vardhan said.

"On Jan 10, 2011, he was convicted and sentenced to capital punishment," DCP Vardhan said.

In July 2024, he was granted a two-week furlough and did not surrender after that.
