Delhi-NCR Rain News Updates: City swings from being rain deficient to rain surplus in September

Delhi had been receiving drizzles and light showers in some areas for the past four days, but the rain on Thursday persisted from early morning till late in the evening to leave the city enjoying the respite from the humidity and heat.

All government and private schools till class 8 across Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar will remain closed on Friday due to rains, an official order announced on Thursday.

Copious showers for over 12 hours on Thursday helped reduce the city’s rainfall deficit to 51%, which was staring at a massive shortfall of 84% just four days ago. However, the downpour brought in its wake reports of waterlogging and traffic jams on multiple stretches and outages in several areas.The heavy showers began around 6am and continued till evening. Gurugram received 55mm of rainfall in just 12 hours, according to data released by the district administration. Till September 22, the city had received 35. 6 mm of rainfall as compared to the normal of 72. 7 mm. Scattered light to moderate showers may occur over the next 2-3 days in Gurugram, according to the weather department that has issued a yellow alert for Friday, predicting thunderstorms and lightning.
