NEW DELHI: Several areas in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced rainfall on Thursday. The Indian Meteorological Department (
IMD) has predicted more rain until Friday and issued a yellow alert for the city.
The IMD cited multiple factors that could keep Delhi wet, leading to potential waterlogging in low-lying areas and possible traffic disruptions.
Gusty winds with speeds of up to 30 kmph are also expected to accompany the rainfall.
Rain is also forecasted for
Haryana, west
Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and northern Madhya Pradesh from September 11 to September 14.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rain is anticipated in west Uttar Pradesh, while isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, and east Rajasthan could also see heavy rain.
A depression over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh has been identified as one of the reasons for the rainfall. IMD noted that this system is being closely monitored.
"Depression over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh (UP) near latitude 26.3°N and longitude 78.2°E, close to Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), about 100 km south of Agra (UP). To move slowly north-northwestwards during next 24 hours. System is under continuous surveillance of Doppler Weather Radars at Delhi and Lucknow," IMD posted on X.
For northwest India, the IMD forecasts widespread light to moderate rainfall over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, with isolated to scattered rainfall in other areas during the week.
Heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan until September 13, and in Haryana on September 12. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in these areas from September 11 to 15.
