NEW DELHI: Delhi government’s labour department will station mobile vans at construction sites to register labourers to provide them with the benefits of welfare schemes run by it.
According to the outcome budget, there are 13.4 lakh labourers registered with Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The government has decided to take the number to 15 lakh in this financial year.
Delhi government provides financial assistance under 17 welfare schemes such as grant of disability pension, ex gratia payment, medical assistance, maternity benefit and death benefit to the registered workers.
Chairing a meeting of senior officials of his department, la bour minister Raaj Kumar Anand said sending mobile registration vans would be a significant step because it would help deliver essential documents for all welfare schemes to as many construction workers and other labourers as possible.
“A specially designed skill development programme for Delhi’s construction workers will also be launched by the government by the end of September. This programme will provide opportunities to the labourers to improve their skills, opening up new avenues for their employment,” he added.
He announced distribution of a newsletter at construction sites, which will contain crucial information on welfare initiatives by the labour department
