82 km Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor will open to public on Feb 22

NEW DELHI: The 82 km Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut RRTS corridor will finally be open to the public on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off two trains from Shatabdi Nagar — one Namo Bharat train towards Sarai Kale Khan and another Meerut Metro, in which he is likely to take a ride.

Presently, 55-km stretch of the RRTS corridor — covering 11 stations from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South — is operational. Trial runs on the remaining section were completed in Aug 2025. In the Delhi section, Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station, one of the largest stations which has been ready for operations since July 2025, will be inaugurated.


Although the current frequency of Namo Bharat trains is 15 minutes, it will reduce to 10 minutes after the entire corridor becomes operational. It will take 58 minutes from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to reach Modipuram in Meerut.

With a design speed of 135 kmph and a maximum operational speed of 120 kmph, officials said the Meerut Metro will be the fastest metro system in the country. It will operate on a 21 km stretch from Meerut South to Modipuram with 12 stations and will cover this distance in around 30 minutes.
