Delhi may show the way for CAS

NEW DELHI: Left to decide the dates of their own to roll out CAS, with no coercion from the Centre, Mumbai and Kolkata may opt to go along with Delhi only towards the year-end. This became evident at a meeting of top officials of the states concerned. The meeting was convened on Monday by information and broadcasting secretary Pawan Chopra.

None of the state governments spelt out their intentions in clear terms.

But they indicated their inability to adopt CAS immediately.
While West Bengal has sought clarifications and would like to wait till after the Puja festival, Maharashtra has said its police force is stretched following the Mumbai twin blasts.
Two old adversaries — Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and his one-time right-hand man, Maharashtra’s deputy CM Chhagan Bhujbal — have all but joined hands against CAS.
