Delhi: Man strangles wife to death while daughter slept in same room; tried to disguise it as suicide
NEW DELHI: Police arrested a 45-year-old man, who allegedly strangled his wife, before trying to pass it off as suicide, in northwest Delhi’s Tri Nagar early on Sunday.
The man made a PCR call at 1.05 am and said, “My wife has hanged herself. The room’s door is locked.” He identified himself as Dinesh Sharma, a priest at a Shiv mandir in Kanhaiya Nagar.
There were no visible external injuries. Her 11-year-old daughter was asleep in the same room, an officer said.
Sharma initially claimed his wife had died by suicide, but inconsistencies in his statement raised suspicion. “During sustained interrogation, he broke down and confessed to killing her,” the cop said.
The couple had a heated argument late Saturday, following which Sharma smothered Sushma with a pillow before strangling her with a gamchha , he told police.
