Delhi man kills two-year-old son following dispute with wife, attempts suicide

NEW DELHI: A two-year-old boy lost his life and his older brother sustained injuries in an alleged assault by their father, who later attempted suicide, as per the police report on Tuesday.

Rakesh, a resident of JJ Colony, reportedly attacked his sons after a dispute with his wife. Described as unemployed and battling alcoholism, Rakesh engaged in a heated argument with his wife on Monday evening, subsequently locking himself in a room with their two sons. Using a sharp-edged weapon, he inflicted harm upon the children before attempting to take his own life, stated a senior police official.

After receiving information about the distressing incident around 6:30 pm, a team from Bharat Nagar police station swiftly responded. The injured children were initially taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital and later referred to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for further medical attention. Tragically, Rakesh's younger son succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while Rakesh and his five-year-old elder son are currently receiving treatment, as per the authorities.

In connection with the matter, the police have filed a case against Rakesh under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
