The parole is granted on the grounds of his wife's medical condition, as she requires surgery. Arun Pillai, accused of being a close aide to K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, is implicated in the liquor cartel's kickback scandal. The Enforcement Directorate alleges that the cartel paid around Rs 100 crore in kickbacks to the Aam Aadmi Party to influence the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

During the parole, Pillai is restricted from tampering with evidence, meeting media persons, or accessing phones or the internet. The judge directed that he bear the expenses of the journey and security, ensuring plain-clothed security officials accompany him.
