NEW DELHI: LG VK Saxena on Monday alleged that "unsubstantiated and false statements" had been made against him that he was conspiring to stop the power subsidy and asked chief minister
Arvind Kejriwal to furnish documentary evidence to establish the same.
In a letter to the chief minister, Saxena said that if the information was not provided to him, he would assume that statements were made "deliberately" to "mislead" people of Delhi, which would "deserve condemnation" and require "legal redressal".
The Aam Aadmi Party, however, said the LG's allegations were "false".
Saxena's letter came days after his face-off with power minister Atishi over the alleged delay in clearing the file related to the government's proposal to extend the power subsidy for one more year.
While Atishi alleged in a press conference on April 14 that the LG was sitting over the important file and the people of Delhi won't get power subsidy from the next day, Raj Niwas claimed that the proposal had been approved within three days of receiving it and much before the presser called by the power minister.
In his letter, the LG alleged that "blatantly false, misleading, accusatory, libellous and defamatory" statements had been made against him over a few weeks by the chief minister and the power and health ministers that he was conspiring to stop the subsidy. He also mentioned the headlines of several press releases issued by the office of the chief minister and the power minister to substantiate his claims.
"For the past few weeks, the Hon'ble Minister (Power), Hon'ble Minister (Health) and you yourself have been making blatantly false, misleading, accusatory, libellous and defamatory statements in the media and elsewhere to the effect that the subsidy given in the power sector is being stopped by the Lt Governor... the Lt Governor is conspiring with the officers to stop power subsidy," Saxena noted in his letter.
The LG added that he had made his commitment to power subsidy to the poor both in public as well as by writing the same on different files on different occasions. "The above-mentioned omissions and commissions on your part have obviously been deliberate and with an aim to create an imaginary bogey to mislead the people for partisan gains," Saxena said.
The LG said he was writing to Kejriwal seeking "accountability and responsibility" with regards to unsubstantiated and false statements made by his colleagues in the government and AAP.
"It is expected that the information sought above will be furnished to me at the earliest, failing which it would be assumed that you and your colleagues are deliberately misleading the people of Delhi and playing petty political games, which deserve unequivocal condemnation and legal redressal," the LG wrote.
