Delhi Jal Board seeks reports on water conservation activities
NEW DELHI: Delhi Jal Board has asked for district-wise fortnightly progress reports from all departments on the various initiatives under Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
Jal Shakti Abhiyan is a central government’s initiative on development of water resources in the country. DJB has been appointed as the state nodal agency for its implementation.
All districts have been asked to upload details of the activities on their respective Jal Shakti portals, according to a letter written by DJB to the autonomous bodies, district magistrates and government departments on August 28.
DJB has sent a template, along with a letter, based on which the information regarding water conservation is to be sent to the board every 14 days by all the departments, in coordination with the district magistrates.
DJB has asked for a plan of action for ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan-Catch The Rain-2022’, intervention-wise progress of completed and ongoing activities, number of Jal Shakti Kendras currently operational and other areas identified for setting up of such centres.
These centres provide all the required technical assistance on the rainwater harvesting systems and also give out information about the financial assistance available to customers. But despite these efforts, rainwater harvesting is yet to be adopted on a mass scale in the city. The Centre and Delhi government have been trying to make people more aware about rainwater harvesting and preservation of waterbodies.
