NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Monday summoned Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in response to a defamation lawsuit filed by BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav scheduled the next hearing for April 28.
The court instructed that the complaint be treated as a formal suit and directed summons to be issued to Tharoor.
The matter will be listed before the joint registrar on the scheduled date.
In his suit, Chandrasekhar accused Tharoor of making false and damaging statements at various public events in April 2024, which harmed his professional and personal reputation. He is seeking a public apology and Rs 10 crore in damages for the alleged defamation.
The defamation suit stems from remarks Tharoor reportedly made in a television interview, where he allegedly accused Chandrasekhar of offering money to voters during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Chandrasekhar is represented by the law firm Karanjawala and Company.
