NEW DELHI: Delhi government will extend financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the 24 artisans whose stalls were destroyed in the April 30 fire at Delhi Haat, tourism minister Kapil Mishra announced.
In addition to the compensation, the affected artisans will be given stalls at Delhi Haat in INA free of charge for six months — from July 1 to December 31. The stall allotment will be carried out through a lottery system, Mishra said.
He further noted that Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta had previously announced the Rs 5 lakh ex gratia compensation for each artisan. The relief package, totaling Rs 1.20 crore, has received official approval and will be disbursed shortly.
"Our government is committed to safeguarding the interests of artisans and providing them with the necessary support," Mishra said to news agency PTI. He added that these relief measures are intended to help artisans recover from their losses and restart their livelihoods.
