In a shocking defeat, three-time winner Saurabh Bharadwaj of AAP lost from Greater Kailash to BJP's sitting councillor Shikha Roy by a margin of 3,188 votes. Created in 2008 after delimitation, the constituency had BJP's VK Malhotra as its first MLA. It then became an AAP bastion, with Bharadwaj winning in 2013, 2015 and 2020. He defeated Rai in 2020 by 16,809 votes.

On Saturday, it was a different script, as Roy emerged victorious, polling 49,594 votes compared to Bharadwaj's 46,406. Congress' Garvit Singhvi managed just 6,711 votes. Roy, who won two consecutive municipal councillor terms from GK, has held key posts in MCD, including standing committee chairperson. After her win, she thanked people for choosing to hand over Delhi govt to PM Modi, saying, "Govt's work will be visible in the next few months, but it will take some time to fix the backlogs left by the previous one."

Bharadwaj, too, thanked the AAP volunteers and asked supporters not to be afraid or disappointed as they "win big battles by losing the small ones". "As an MLA, we did whatever we could for people. We will analyse the result. Even BJP's staunch supporters said we would win the elections, but it's inappropriate to comment at this time," he said.

The upscale constituency of GK is home to the upper-middle class and middle class, residing mostly in affluent colonies, including Greater Kailash I and II, Chittaranjan Park, Panchsheel Park, Asiad Village, Chirag Dilli and Kailash Colony. It also houses some urban villages and JJ clusters.
