Delhi Election Results Highlights: BJP sweeps Delhi Lok Sabha elections, wins 7 out of 7 seats

In the recently concluded general elections, BJP's Yogendra Chandoliya, a first-time contestant from Northwest Delhi constituency, secured a resounding victory over Congress' Udit Raj by a margin exceeding 2.90 lakh votes. This achievement marked the highest victory margin among all the winning BJP candidates in the national capital.

Compared to the 2019 general polls, where BJP candidates had won by margins ranging from over 2.28 lakh to 5.78 lakh votes, the current election saw a shift in the victory margins. Three of the BJP candidates managed to win by a margin of less than one lakh votes, with only Chandoliya surpassing the two-lakh mark. In the West Delhi constituency, BJP's Kamaljeet Sehrawat emerged victorious against AAP's Mahabal Mishra by a margin of 1.99 lakh votes.

Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of late veteran leader Sushma Swaraj, made her political debut by defeating AAP's Somnath Bharti in the New Delhi seat. Swaraj secured the seat with a margin of 78,370 votes, which was the lowest among all the winning candidates. She was fielded by the BJP as a replacement for the outgoing MP and Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi.

In the Northeast Delhi constituency, BJP candidate Manoj Tiwari achieved a hat-trick by defeating Congress' Kanhaiya Kumar with a margin of 1.38 lakh votes. Tiwari was the only candidate from the previous election who was given another chance by the party. Meanwhile, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri emerged victorious in the South Delhi seat, securing a margin of 1.24 lakh votes.

BJP's Praveen Khandelwal, contesting from the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat, triumphed over Congress veteran J P Agarwal by a margin of 89,325 votes. In the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat, BJP's Harsh Malhotra defeated AAP's Kuldeep Kumar, winning by a margin of 93,663 votes.

The BJP's dominance in Delhi-NCR remained unshakable, defying the party's loosening grip on several states it had swept in 2019. The party secured a resounding victory, clinching all seven seats in the national capital for the third consecutive general election.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Manoj Tiwari defeated Congress' Kanhaiya Kumar in the Northeast Delhi Lok Sabha seat by over 1.38 lakh votes.

Tiwari, the only candidate to be repeated by the party, clinched the crucial seat for a record third time.

A Bhojpuri singer, the BJP leader trounced fellow Purvanchali Kanhaiya Kumar by a margin of 1,38,778 votes. The BJP won all seven seats in Delhi in the 2014 and 2019 general elections and is set to repeat the feat for the third time.

Harsh Malhotra, the BJP candidate, emerged victorious in the East Delhi election, garnering a total of 664819 votes. His opponent, Kuldeep Kumar from the AAP, trailed behind by a margin of 93663 votes.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the BJP candidate, emerged triumphant in the South Delhi constituency, clinching a resounding victory. With an impressive tally of 684,339 votes, Bidhuri comfortably defeated his closest rival, Sahi Ram of the AAP, by a substantial margin of 120,507 votes.

BJP's Bansuri Swaraj, emerged victorious in her maiden electoral contest from the New Delhi constituency during the Lok Sabha election. Swaraj secured the seat with an impressive margin, surpassing her nearest rival Somnath Bharti by over 70,000 votes.

In the North East Delhi constituency, BJP candidate Manoj Tiwari is nearing the 6 lakh vote mark as the counting of votes progresses. Congress's Kashaya Kumar trails Tiwari by over 1 lakh+ votes

As per an election commission official, approximately 60 percent of the vote counting for the Delhi Lok Sabha Polls has been completed. The counting process started at 8 and after 12 rounds, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading in all 7 constituencies in the capital city.

In the New Delhi constituency, Bansuri Swaraj, the BJP candidate, has taken a significant lead of 31,000+ votes. Her primary opponent in this electoral battle was Somnath Bharti from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)

In Gurgaon, Congress's Raj Babbar has a lead of 20,000+ votes, while in Faridabad, BJP's Krishan Pal is leading by 96,000+ votes.

The BJP is ahead in all seven seats in the capital, with the closest vote margin occurring between candidates in East Delhi. BJP candidate Harsh Malhotra leading by only 9000+ votes

BJP's Chandni Chowk candidate Praveen Khandelwal has taken the lead, ahead by 8,000+ votes. He is competing against Congress party's Jai Prakash Agarwal in the constituency.

Praveen Khandelwal is leading in Chandni Chowk by 1,830 votes, Manoj Tiwari in Northeast Delhi by 47,968 votes and Harsh Malhotra in East Delhi by 6,700 votes. Bansuri Swaraj is ahead in New Delhi by 15,100 votes, Kamaljeet Sehrawat in West Delhi by 34,000 votes, Yogender Chandoliya in North West Delhi by 63,700 votes, and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri in South Delhi by 22,571 votes.

On Monday, the Delhi traffic police released a new advisory in anticipation of the highly anticipated vote counting set for Tuesday. The advisory outlines key roads where traffic restrictions and diversions will begin at 5 am to ensure smooth traffic flow.According to the advisory, "The movement of traffic on the road stretch/carriageway from Gagan Cinema T-Point to Nand Nagri Flyover on Wazirabad Road (Mangal Pandey Road) Delhi will be restricted from 5:00 am onwards. Wazirabad Road (Mangal Pandey Road) will be closed for general traffic from 5:00 am onwards and traffic will be diverted from Gagan Cinema T-Point. The general public/commuters are also advised to avoid the below road from 5:00 am onwards," the advisory further said.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured 56.9 percent of the total votes. The INC followed with 22.5 percent, while the AAP came in third with 18.1 percent of the votes.

According to early trends, the BJP is ahead in six seats while the INDIA bloc leads in one. JP Aggarwal of the Congress party is currently leading in the Chandni Chowk constituency.

As per initial trends, BJP is leading in five out of seven seats in Delhi.

From the slogan 'Jail ka Jawab Vote Se,' showing Kejriwal behind bars, to 'Taanaashahi ka ant karne woh aa raha hai,' the AAP's Lok Sabha campaign transformed from a protest into a vigorous battle over the 51 days following Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest and subsequent release on interim bail in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

The BJP said on Monday that Congress and its allies have not only lost the people's trust but have also failed to act as a responsible opposition, consistently attempting to undermine democratic institutions.

"We are very optimistic that our results will be entirely different from what the exit polls are indicating," said Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Monday when asked about her expectations. Sonia made these comments after attending an event commemorating DMK leader M Karunanidhi's 100th birth anniversary.

In late February, Congress and AAP reached a seat-sharing agreement after weeks of negotiations. Under this agreement, AAP will contest in four constituencies: East Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and New Delhi. Congress will field candidates in the remaining three constituencies: Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi, and North West Delhi. The main contenders in Delhi for the upcoming election are thus the BJP and the INDIA bloc, which consists of an alliance between AAP and Congress.

The Delhi traffic police on Monday issued a fresh advisory ahead of the much-awaited counting of votes scheduled for Tuesday, listing key roads where traffic restrictions and diversions will start from 5 am onwards to ensure smooth vehicular movement. The general public and motorists are advised to keep patience, observe traffic rules and road discipline and follow directions of traffic personnel deployed at all intersections.

In the last two Lok Sabha elections, the BJP decimated both the AAP and the Congress as it won all the 7 seats. In the 2019 elections, BJP got 56.86% of the vote share, while the Congress secured 22.51% and AAP polled 18.11% of the votes. The Congress was relegated to third spot in most of the seats in 2014 after AAP became BJP’s main challenger in Delhi.

The exit polls predictions suggest that the BJP could sweep all seven seats, akin to their performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. The PMARQ exit poll has predicted BJP to win 7 of 7 seats. Axis-MyIndia has also predicted 6 seats for BJP, and 1 for INDIA bloc. Today's Chanakya and Polstrat also predicted a clean sweep of BJP in the national capital. The CVoter exit poll projected 1-3 seats for INDIA bloc while the BJP got 4-6 seats.

In the 2014 general elections, the combined votes of Congress and AAP in six of the seven seats in Delhi outnumbered those of the BJP. However, by 2019, the BJP managed to secure more votes than the combined tally of the two parties in all seven seats. As the BJP was far ahead of both the parties individually in both the elections, a united front was the only way that the parties could potentially alter the electoral dynamics.


In the 2019 general elections, the BJP secured 57% of the vote, Congress garnered 23%, AAP received 18%, and other parties accounted for 2%. In contrast, the 2020 state elections saw AAP’s vote share surging to 54%, Congress' vote share dropping to 4%, while the BJP received 39% and other parties remained at 3%. This stark variation in vote percentages within just a year is what the opposition parties are banking upon for the upcoming polls.

Polling for the seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi was held on May 25 in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. According to the Election Commission of India, a voter turnout of 58.69% was recorded in the national capital. Among the seven constituencies, North East Delhi recorded the highest turnout at 62.89%, while New Delhi had the lowest at 55.43%.

For this election, the BJP's candidates include Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi, Harsh Deep Malhotra from East Delhi, Yogendra Chandolia from North West Delhi, Praveen Khandelwal from Chandni Chowk, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi.


AAP fielded Kuldeep Kumar in East Delhi, Mahabal Mishra in West Delhi, Somnath Bharti in New Delhi, and Sahi Ram Pahalwan in South Delhi. Congress nominated J P Agarwal for Chandni Chowk, Kanhaiya Kumar for North East Delhi, and Udit Raj for North West Delhi.
