About 16,000 licences are now issued by MCD in the conforming areas, including 6,000 in the erstwhile south corporation localities and 4,000 in east Delhi.

“Till last month, a minimum amount was charged for desealing the illegal trading activities. An amount of Rs 15,000 was imposed on defaulters in south Delhi, but now the rates have been implemented as three times the licensing fee. The changes aim to dissuade illegal activities and bring more taxpayers under the licensing fee net,” said an official.

The move has come along with the order to implement the uniform health trade licence fee in the entire Delhi after the unification of MCD. The licence fee is paid by establishments like eateries, hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, bakeries, tobacco/paan shops and catering vans, said an official.

The decision will hit the traders of north and east Delhi hard as they will be paying many times high trade licence fees now. Officials warned that action would be intensified against illegal activities so that traders should obtain a licence.

Regarding the non-conforming areas, the corporation claimed to be implementing a central scheme for issuing licences for health trade activities in all 94 categories for a temporary period.

“We have started work recently and soon start issuing the licences. The fees charged will remain the same,” said the official.
