NEW DELHI: Delhi Police's crime branch has arrested two people, including a businessman, in connection with a Rs 34 lakh
robbery. One of the accused, Syed Imran (22), had taken to crime to compensate for the losses he incurred in his business, police said. The police have recovered Rs 7 lakh from the accused till now. The other accused has been identified as Rahul Sikka (20).
According to DCP (crime) Amit Goel, the accused went on a trip to places like Manali, Shimla, Rishikesh, Hardwar, Dehradun and Mussoorie after the incident. However, they were tracked down by a team led by inspector Shivraj Singh Bisht with help from CCTV footage and electronic and human surveillance.
"Imran dealt in women's clothing and had a firm by in the name of ‘Crossika Fashion’, using which he got himself registered on e-commerce websites for online sales,” Goel said.
The incident took place on June 24. The victim, Vicky Gupta, had reported that he was an employee of a money transfer company and was on his way to meet a client with Rs 34 lakh in his scooty.
“As soon as he turned towards Shastri Nagar on Sarai Rohilla flyover, two persons on a scooty waylaid him and held him at gunpoint. They asked him to hand over the case and threatened to shoot if he resisted,” the DCP added.
During interrogation, Imran revealed that he had sustained losses of around Rs 4 lakh in business and had taken a loan of Rs 5 lakh. To make up for the mounting debt and interest apart from the loss, he hatched a plot to commit a cash robbery.
