Delhi blast: CCTV footage shows suspect’s vehicle entering and exiting Red Fort area; over 100 clips being examined
NEW DELHI: At least eight people were killed and many injured in a high-intensity explosion near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday evening at 7 pm, when a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal.
Delhi Police have obtained CCTV footage showing a lone suspect's car entering and exiting the parking area and are now investigating the incident, according to news agency ANI.
The Delhi Police are examining over 100 CCTV clips, including footage from nearby toll plazas, to track the vehicle's complete movement as investigators trace the route towards Daryaganj.
Police have registered a case at the Kotwali Police Station under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
"This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives. Within 10 minutes of receiving the information of the blast, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the spot," Union Home Minister Amit Shah said.
Shah further stated: "I have also spoken to the Delhi CP and the Special Branch in charge. The Delhi CP and the Special Branch in-charge are present at the spot. We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking all possibilities into account. All options will be investigated immediately and we will present the results to the public."
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha provided details about the incident: "Today, at around 6.52 pm, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged. All agencies, FSL, NIA, are here... Some people have died, and some have been injured in the incident. The situation is being monitored."
The blast damaged several vehicles in the vicinity and affected pedestrians near the Red Fort Metro Station area.
Multiple investigative agencies, including the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and National Investigation Agency (NIA), are present at the blast site.
The authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to establish the complete sequence of events and movement of the suspect's vehicle.
Special Branch and Crime Branch teams reached the location within 10 minutes of receiving information about the explosion.
The investigation is currently exploring all possible angles of the incident, with authorities promising to share findings with the public.
