NEW DELHI: The family members of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma, who was murdered during the riots which broke out in the northeast Delhi in February, are happy that police have filed a chargesheet in the case. Meanwhile, the family has shifted to a relative’s house in Ghaziabad to distract themselves from their grief and memories associated with the area.
Ankit’s elder brother, Ankur, told TOI that his mother would constantly cry remembering his brother.

“She had been inconsolable and we wanted a change of place to divert her attention. People in the area were familiar and would often ask my family members of their well-being and recall Ankit’s gruesome murder. Even while walking in the area, we would cross the drain and constantly remember him.”
Increase in the cases of novel coronavirus in their locality was another reason which had left the family members concerned. “We have been provided with security, but even police officers from the Khajuri Khas police station have tested positive. My uncle was repeatedly calling us and we thought it was the best time to go as my parents would have a change of place and they might feel better there,” Ankur added.
“Delhi Police did a great job and filed the chargesheet. However, we are still waiting for assistance from the central government,” said Ankur.
Ankit Sharma’s body was found in a drain near his home in the northeast Delhi’s Chand Bagh on February 26, a day after he had gone missing during the riots. He had joined the IB as security assistant in 2017.
