Delhi: 40-year-old stalker with criminal record, aide held for teacher's attack

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old stalker and his associate have been arrested in connection with the attack on a tuition teacher in northwest Delhi's Keshavpuram on Thursday. According to her husband, the woman had resisted advances made by the accused.
The accused, Naveen Sharma, has been involved in cases of arms act and cheating, among others, and was lodged in jail in 2003.His associate, Aakash, is a drug addict. They were arrested after raids were conducted in west Delhi and Gurgaon.
On Thursday, police received a call about the assault on a woman in Keshavpuram. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. "The woman, a tuition teacher, told us that a boy on the instructions of Sharma attacked her with a blade when she was returning home from her class at B 4 block," an officer said.
The woman also told cops that three months ago, she had given a complaint against the accused for intimidation, however, the matter was settled mutually. DCP (northwest) Usha Rangnani said teams were formed and the CCTV footage was analysed. "It was found that the both came on a scooty and Aakash assaulted the woman. Raids were conducted and both accused were arrested," she said.
According to the woman's husband, Sharma asked her to marry him. He told her to leave her husband, which she objected to, he alleged. "He also threatened my wife that he would kill me. Sharma used to follow her wherever she went. My wife stopped teaching his child and he started sending messages to her," he said.
For the past six months, she had been facing harassment, the woman complaint said, adding she finally informed her husband in June and he approached the police.
Investigators claimed that Sharma had promised Aakash that he would get him drugs if he attacked the woman.
The woman is the mother of a 15-year-old girl.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder in this regard.
