NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her rented house in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh on Saturday evening. She had moved to the city almost six months ago to prepare for UPSC exams and left a suicide note behind, apologising to her parents for taking this step.
Police said that the matter was reported when the girl’s friend came to meet her at her house, but got no response. She then alerted the neighbours and made a PCR call, after which the room’s door was broken open and she was found hanging from the fan in her bedroom.
DCP (central) Mandeep Randhawa said that they are probing into the matter. The woman, Shrimathi, was from Tamil Nadu and had been living here alone.
Shrimathi’s last conversaion had been with her friend who found her house locked. The friend told the cops that she spoke to her approximately two hours before she reached there and that Shrimathi sounded very upset and under a lot of stress, which is why she came to meet her. She said that even though she seemed upset, she had no clue that Shrimathi would commit suicide.
Police said that her family was informed, and they reached Delhi after which the postmortem examination was conducted and the body was handed over to them.
The three lines in her suicide note said that she was upset and was punishing herself. “I am sorry papa. I am sorry mumma.. I am sorry brother,” the note read. Police said that her family members claimed that she did not seem visibly upset to them and they last had a conversation with them a few hours before they got a call from the police informing them about her suicide.
Her family members, who are still in a state of shock, said that the woman took a lot of stress about her studies, but that was never a reason to worry for them. They said that she insisted she wanted to become a government servant and shifted to Delhi right after finishing her graduation in Tamil Nadu.
