DDA will inaugurate new cycle track at Asita during Palaash Mahotsav

New Delhi: Reaffirming its commitment to eco-friendly mobility and enhanced public engagement with green spaces, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will inaugurate a new 1.3-km cycle track at Asita on Sunday. The round leisure cycling track was developed at the direction of Lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and aims to further strengthen recreational facilities at the restored Yamuna floodplain site. "In addition, we are working on proposed cycle corridors spanning approximately 21 km along the western bank and 30 km along the eastern edge of the river," said an official. The inauguration of the cycle track forms part of the Palaash Mahotsav to be organised at Asita on Feb 21 and 22. Officials said the festival earlier drew an enthusiastic public response at four prominent locations — Baansera at Birsa Munda Chowk, Ashoka Garden at Ashok Vihar, Lala Hardayal Park at Jasola and Smriti Van at Narela — during its first phase held from Feb 14 to 16. The two-day event at Asita, to be attended by LG, will feature inter-departmental or division competitions, with decorations curated by DDA's horticulture department. Visitors can expect floral displays, thematic installations, cultural performances, food stalls and interactive competitions such as floral jewellery design, rangoli, fashion walk, painting and photography. Organising the festival at the restored Yamuna floodplains also aims to connect citizens with the story of ecological revival and sustainable urban transformation. Open at a nominal ticket price, the event will include pottery workshops, recreational rides and swings, offering a wholesome weekend outing for families. "With pleasant weather, it would be the perfect time for families to come and enjoy their weekends. Tulips were integrated as a prominent feature of the Palaash Festival, expanding Delhi's floral landscape beyond the traditional confines of Lutyens' Delhi," said the authority.
