NEW DELHI: A team of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday inspected several public toilets and found many non-functional or in poor condition. DCW chief Swati Maliwal asked
MCD officials to get the toilets cleaned.
The team was shocked to see the pathetic condition of an MCD toilet at Sanjay Colony Jhuggi in Gokulpuri, DCW stated. There was no caretaker and human excreta could be seen lying inside and outside the complex without even entering it, DCW added.
Due to the unhygienic condition, women and girls are forced to defecate in the open, read the statement. Residents told the team that no action had been taken despite repeated complaints.
DCW also visited toilets at Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri and Khichripur, and found that the toilets didn't even have doors and lights even in the women's area. Many also didn't have water supply. Maliwal said, "I am disgusted with the condition of public toilets in Delhi... We have issued summons to senior officials."
