'Sat on his chest': Retired IAF engineer murdered by daughter-in-law over property row in Delhi; arrested
NEW DELHI: A retired Air Force engineer was murdered allegedly by his daughter-in-law following a family dispute in southwest Delhi's Bindapur area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Naresh Kumar (62) of Mansa Ram Park.
Police said the arrested woman, Geeta (32), allegedly sat on the victim's chest and assaulted him, causing him fatal head injuries. A property dispute over a house, on a 50-yard property, is being cited as the motive behind the crime.
Police got a PCR call at 10.46 am about the case. They found Naresh lying unconscious on the rooftop of his house. He was rushed to a nearby hospital along with his younger son. Doctors declared him dead.
Geeta was on the first floor of the house. She told the police that she beat him up. An inquiry revealed that the two were locked in a long-running dispute over property division, and had frequent arguments.
Neighbours told police that Naresh was sitting alone on the terrace when Geeta allegedly went upstairs and attacked him. She allegedly pinned him down by sitting on his chest and then repeatedly hit him. Naresh suffered severe head trauma. Hearing his cries, neighbours raised the alarm. By the time his younger daughter and others reached the terrace, Naresh had suffered multiple injuries and was unresponsive.
Naresh reportedly lived with his younger son, daughter-in-law and minor daughter. His elder son, who is Geeta's husband, works in Hyderabad and was not present. Naresh's wife passed away 4 months ago.
A case has been registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bindapur police station.
