NEW DELHI: The trial in the Jessica Lall murder case started on a day-to-day basis on Wednesday with the court issuing summons to seven witnesses for recording their testimonies on Thursday and Friday.

the delhi high court on monday had rejected the bail of the main accused manu sharma but ordered the trial court to expedite and complete the trial within four months. the witnesses listed for testimony on thursday are two hindustan coca cola limited officials — vice-president sunil sawhney and human resource manager sumitabh bhatnagar — and a certain andaleep sehgal. according to the police, these coca cola officials had provided two mobile phones and two tata sierra cars for official use to former coca cola executives alok khanna and amardeep singh gill alias tony, both accused in the case. the cell phones and the cars are alleged to have been used by the accused when the incident took place. sehgal is alleged to have seen manu at tamarind court where jessica was shot dead on the night of april 29, 1999. the court will also examine four witnesses on friday: manbir singh, an official with the motor vehicle authority in chandigarh. gurnam singh, an arms licensing authority clerk who would establish the ownership of the licensed pistol allegedly used by manu. surinder singh of ambala cantt who kept a sale and stock register of weapons and narain chopra who owns sonu gun house in karnal from where manu allegedly purchased the rounds.
