Customs arrest flyer with 6.9kg marijuana at IGI
New Delhi: Customs at IGI Airport has arrested an Indian passenger who arrived from Bangkok on June 9 and tried to smuggle 6.9 kg marijuana. The estimated value of the seized contraband is around Rs 2.4 crore.
Customs officials said the passenger was intercepted at Terminal 3 on the basis of profiling. “During X-ray screening and detailed examination of the passenger’s baggage, eight polythene pouches containing green-coloured narcotic substance suspected to be marijuana were recovered from a black-coloured trolley bag,” said a senior official.
The official added that the recovered substance weighed 6,939.5 grams and, upon testing, it tested positive for marijuana. “The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985 and the contraband along with the packing material was seized.
