NEW DELHI: The special cell of Delhi Police has arrested a notorious inter-state gangster and claimed to have averted a gangwar in the city. In a separate operation, two alleged henchmen of Canada-based gangster Arshdeep Dalla who had come to Delhi from Punjab to carry out a ‘target killing’ have been arrested.
In the first operation, the arrested gangster has been identified as Hariom Kaushik, a shooter of Sandeep Bishnoi syndicate. According to DCP (special cell) Pramod Kushwaha, a 9mm (prohibited bore) pistol and two pistols of .32 bore and 50 cartridges have been seized from him. “Kaushik is involved in 15 heinous cases, including murder, robbery, attempted murder and possession of illegal arms, in different states. He had been leading Bishnoi’s gang after his murder by rivals inside a court in Rajasthan on September 19,” Kushwaha added.
Kaushik, a resident of Haryana, was arrested by a team comprising inspector Ravinder Tyagi and Ajit Singh after a high voltage chase on Jaipur-Delhi highway.
In the second operation, the arrested men have been identified as Ravinder Singh from Punjab and Navdeep Singh from Jahangirpuri, Delhi. Gangster Dalla had contacted jailed criminal Taranjot Tanna who had assigned the task to the duo, DCP Rajiv Ranjan Singh said. Tanna is currently lodged in Firozpur jail in Punjab.
The duo was arrested by a team comprising ACP Sanjay Dutt, inspector Chandrika and others. Two semi-automatic pistols and nine live cartridges were recovered from them.
Probe revealed that on their target was a businessman who had refused to pay them Rs five crore as extortion money.
The duo was caught after police received a tip-off that two shooters of this syndicate would cross Mukarba Chowk flyover after which a trap was laid and the accused were arrested.
One of the accused, Ravinder, revealed that he earlier worked as an arms supplier. He bought weapons from Madhya Pradesh and sold them to different gangs. During this business, he came in contact with gangster Tanna and joined him after getting to know about his links with Khalistani outfits and international gangster Dalla.
However, Ravinder was arrested in a case of possession of illegal arms last year and came out of jail four months ago. For the current assignment, he was put in contact with a Delhi-based criminal Navdeep and the duo was supplied with arms and ammunition for the 'target killing '. The cell has arrested them under UAPA, the DCP added.
