NEW DELHI: Decapitated bodies of a Delhi Police sub-inspector and his informer were found in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, on Saturday morning. Their half-burnt skulls were found later in Nangloi.
Sub-inspector Satish Kumar Dalal and his informer Vijay Kumar Swami were part of a six-member Crime Branch team that had gone to Mangolpuri on Friday night to arrest criminals involved in a Rs 15-lakh robbery in Prashant Vihar.
North-west Delhi police has registered a case of kidnapping-cum-murder. Two alleged gangsters of Mangolpuri area, Rajender and Joginder, have been detained for questioning.
The police are on the look-out for their brother, Vinod. Their Santro has also been seized. The police are also verifying whether Dalal was carrying his official weapon.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the force. A senior police officer claimed the murder was a fallout of the informer being exposed to robbers.
"It appears the robbers identified him while he was trying to lead the sub-inspector to them," said the officer.
Swami, a technician with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited and resident of Mangolpuri, became a police source a year ago.
This time, Swami had told the police a gang of robbers was going to assemble in a car near B-block park, Mangolpuri.
According to an official, "From Swami''s information, they are locals living in the nearby area and are wanted for robberies in Delhi and Faridabad."
The police are preparing a dossier of criminals living and operating in north-west and west Delhi.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Dependra Pathak said: "Our team was headed by inspector Ajay Sharma. Besides Dalal, there were two constables and another informer."
On Saturday, at 9 am, the Crime Branch received information about two headless bodies within a radius of 2 km. The team reached the spot followed by the victims'' families who identified them.
The police has announced compensation amounting to Rs 5 lakh from the ex-gratia fund, Rs 2 lakh from UTI bank, Rs 2 bank from Delhi Police welfare fund and extra-ordinary pension up to date of retirement for Dalal.
