Coaching centre deaths: Chargesheet to be taken up today

New Delhi: A court on Tuesday is likely to decide on taking cognisance of a chargesheet in a case related to the death of three UPSC aspirants in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar in July.CBI, on Sept 26, filed the chargesheet in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Nishant Garg, which scheduled the hearing for Oct 15.The agency has named six people in its chargesheet — Rau's IAS Study Circle CEO Abhishek Gupta, coaching coordinator Deshpal Singh, and four co-owners of the basement, Sarabjit Singh, Parvinder Singh, Tejinder Singh, and Harinder Singh — for the offences of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and criminal conspiracy. CBI did not name SUV driver Manuj Kathuria as no evidence was found against him. All of them are out on bail. Shreya Yadav (25) of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, and Nevin Delvin (24) from Kerala had died after the basement got flooded following heavy rain in central Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar on July 27. On Aug 2, the case was transferred to CBI from Delhi Police following Delhi High Court's directions. On Aug 6, the agency filed a case against Gupta under BNS sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 290 (negligent conduct when constructing, repairing, or pulling down buildings), and 3(5) (joint criminal liability when two or more people act with a common intention to commit a criminal act).
