NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of the the Okhla councillor Asif Mohammad Khan, who was arrested for allegedly inciting communal sentiments by printing and circulating posters proclaiming war between Islam and Christianity following the September 11 attack on the World Trade Centre in the US.

sodhi observed it was not a fit stage to grant bail the case was at the stage of framing of charges in the trial court. appearing on behalf of asif khan, his lawyers mohammad sajid and tanweer khan argued the prolonged detention of the councillor was hampering development in okhla. the additional district and sessions judge r.l. chugh will allocate khan''s case to some sessions court for his trial on tuesday. the government has already given its sanction, as required in the case of public servants, to the court to go ahead with khan''s trial. the councillor was arrested on september 28 under sestion 124-a of indian penal code (sedition, inciting communal sentiments) and unlawful activities (prevention) act.
