“No leniency can be shown in such cases of pro-ved assault on women,” said special judge Sandeep Yadav, refusing to quash a one-year jail term of a man held guilty in a sexual harassment case.

The convict,

Virender Kumar

, had appealed against the order of a magisterial court that had termed his crime as “serious”. “The sentence is just, fair and adequate,” Yadav said.

The court also upheld a fine of Rs 10,000 with a di-rection that the amount be paid to the survivor.

On May 25, 2015, Kumar had touched her inappro-priately at a public toilet. It was argued that the woman tried to push him away but he did not budge, claiming that he “loved” her.

He also threatened to throw acid on her face. She, however, managed to escape and informed her husband.
