NEW DELHI: The cops who had killed two hardened criminals during a fierce gun battle in a southeast Delhi locality in February 2020 and the ones who busted a narco-terror module led by Khalistani elements are among the policemen awarded medals for gallantry on the eve of Republic Day.
While seven cops have received the gallantry medal, two have been conferred President's police medal for distinguished service and 17 have been awarded for meritorious service, taking the overall count of medals to 26.
Encounter specialist and special cell ACP Lalit Mohan Negi and sub-inspectors Sunder Gautam, Shamsher Singh and Raghuveer Singh have been awarded for gallantry in the encounter of two criminals — Rafiq Raja and his associate Ramesh Bahadur. The duo was intercepted by the team on the busy Anandmayi Marg but the cops faced a barrage of bullets and had to retort.
In another operation led by ACP Negi and comprising SI Manoj Bhati and ASI Shahjad Khan, the special cell had arrested five suspects being handled by ISI's Kashmir-Khalistan desk and seized arms and ammunition.
ACP Pradeep Kumar who was attacked by a protestor during the farmers' agitation on Delhi's border and had sustained 54 stitches while catching the sword-wielding man was also awarded a gallantry medal.
Joint commissioner of police Prem Nath and ACP Sunita Sharma have been awarded the President's Police Medal for distinguished service. ACPs Satvinder Singh, Jasvinder Kaur, Mukesh Rathi, inspectors Narender Kumar Sharma, Jasvinder Kaur, Kuldeep Singh, Shiv Charan Meena, Jawed Husain, Nirmal Kumar, sub-inspectors Jai Bhagwan, Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Vinay Kumar, Rajindra Kumar, Satender Kumar, Rohitasva, Savita and head constable Mala Ram have been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
